“We rented the Old Armoury Barn in Ashburton for a week just after Christmas. I was travelling with my girlfriend and her daughter, and it perfectly suited our needs.

The cottage is a barn conversion, has all mod cons and everything is in good working order. Referred to by the owner as “an upside down house”, the bedrooms are located on the ground floor and the upstairs is given over to an open plan kitchen and living/sitting area. The master bedroom has an ensuite bathroom whilst the other bedroom is furnished with twin beds and there is a separate bathroom with a walk in shower. Each of the bedrooms has a TV as does the living room, and there are a collection of DVDs and games provided by the owners.

The owners themselves are friendly and laid back. Other than meeting them on arrival and again on departure, they did not intrude at all, and yet made it clear that they would be available if we had any problems (they live in the adjoining property). On arrival they had everything looking Christmasy, with a Christmas tree, crackers set on the dining table, and a bottle of prosecco for us which was a nice touch.” Mr B January 2017

“We stayed here for Christmas and it was everything we wanted and more. The house was extremely clean and very tastefully decorated. We were very impressed with the quality of the equipment. Jacqui and Mark were excellent hosts, they responded immediately to any requests and made us feel very welcome. Ashburton is a lovely town and there is plenty to do in the surrounding area.” Mrs W December 2016

“Spent two weeks from 3rd September to the 17th. We had a great fortnight. It has everything you could possibly need for a holiday stay. Beautiful deco, well equipped, spacious, and welcoming. Nothing is too much trouble, and fresh flowers, scones, and brownies were supplied for us. All facilities are at your disposal, dishwasher, washer/dryer, and the kitchen is large, and spotless, as are all areas. Ashburton is a super little town, close to Dartmoor, and surrounding towns. Close enough to visit Cornwall too. The saddest part was leaving, but we will be back. Thank you to the Bartrams, from Gabby, Nigel, and Rob.” Mrs G September 2016

“We arrived to homemade scones, jam and clotted cream, our food shop having been put away and fresh flowers all over the house. The cottage is very clean and everything is of a high spec. There are some toys for the kids plus spades/buckets, and some DVDs and books for adults.” Mrs F August 2016

“This is a great cottage in the centre of Ashburton with fantastic links to Dartmoor and many Devon beaches. The cottage can be found in a quiet little courtyard with ample parking with table and chairs to enjoy the evening sun. The cottage is beautifully presented with modern touches alongside a traditional structure. The owners are helpful and provide flowers and scones to make your stay even more enjoyable.” Mr G July 2016

“Welcomed with fresh flowers, the essentials for a cup of tea or coffee and fresh homemade scones and cream – what else do you go to Devon for? It all felt very clean, including the kitchen utensils and equipment. This is a lovely space to stay in, and in the middle of Ashburton which is a small attractive town with a good mix of shops including antiques, gallery, food shops and places to eat. The drive access is a bit narrow for a large car but the public car park is two minutes away.” J July 2016

“Our friends joined us at the Old Armoury Barn. Having two bedrooms and two bathrooms worked really well for the four of us. There is spacious living, kitchen and dining area. Our hosts provided everything we needed and made us very welcome. Ashburton is a great holiday destination for local shops, coast and Dartmoor. Lane to barn is extremely narrow. Suggest a passenger get out of the car and guide the driver down the lane. There is only one car space available at the barn.” Mrs G May 2016

“We recently stayed for five weeks at Old Armoury Barn in Ashburton and it was an outstanding holiday venue. The original barn has been brilliantly converted into a very modern, well appointed and wonderfully light cottage, with all mod cons. It is down a quaint lane in a quiet spot very close to the delightful village of Ashburton, on the edge of Dartmoor. Our hosts Mark and Jacqui were very friendly and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble. The fresh flowers and other homely touches were very much appreciated. I highly recommend the Old Armoury Barn for a short or long stay.” Mrs H November 2015
